Michael Underhill
Michael Underhill received a degree in architecture from MIT and a Masters in City Planning from Harvard,
and served as a professor of architecture at MIT, University of Toronto, Rice University and Iowa State University. He came
to Phoenix as the Director of the School of Architecture at ASU in 1990. His professional experience includes work in the studio
of Charles and Ray Eames, the offices of Imre Halasz, CRSS, and Taft Architects, and the founding of Cisneros Underhill in Houston.
Michael moved his professional practice from Houston to Phoenix in 1993, and has won 6 local, state, and regional design awards from
the AIA, as well as a PA Design Award. His current focus is on the design of efficient low-rise housing that can enhance downtown
redevelopment in Phoenix. His passion is for modern architecture that is tasteful but also enables individual owner expression
and urban design strategies that enhance neighborhoods.
